Viscount sells Adelaide automotive plant

Viscount Plastics today announced that it was selling its South Australian automotive components plant to Active Plastic Industries and Trident Tooling for an undisclosed amount.
The plant based in the Adelaide suburb of Woodville supplies plastic components to Holden, Mitsubishi, Ford and several major automotive components suppliers in Australia. It employs 170 people of whom 60 are casuals. Viscount`s other operations in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Brisbane continue as normal.
The Managing Director of Viscount, Mike Dwyer, said that the sale would not have any impact on employment or continuity of supply to customers.
“We decided to sell the business after undertaking a strategic review of all our operations and we are delighted that Active Plastic Industries and Trident Tooling have decided to acquire the business,” said Mr Dwyer. Active Plastic Industries director Steen Saurbrey said; “The acquisition of Viscounts Adelaide business gives us the capability to be a full service provider to the Australian automotive industry in both Melbourne and Adelaide, creating a new major player in the industry”.
The Woodville plant manufactures plastic bumper bars, interior and exterior trims, airconditioning and other components.
Viscount is a leading Asia Pacific manufacturer of rigid plastics packaging. The company manufactures and markets ranges of packaging, industrial and materials handling products. In addition to its interests in Australia, Viscount has operations in China, Malaysia, Thailand, and New Zealand. Viscount is part of the private UK Group Linpac.
Active Plastic Industries is an emerging player in the automotive plastic injection moulding industry. With an emphasis on product and process innovation, combined with its North American and Asian operations, the group is becoming an established international supplier.
Adelaide based toolmaker Trident Tooling has very large export contracts in progress bound for North America, and will utilise the facilities at the Woodville plant to enable completion of these contracts.
